Create new Association Types

In the tree, select the model to which you want to add a new Association Type.
In the tree, select an Object Type.
In the Outlook bar, click Associations.
Select File > New Association Type.
Follow the wizard, using the Help button as necessary.

Once finished, you will have created a new Association Type, which can be used as the basis for associations between objects, and added to the New Objects palette on diagrams.

Note: To enable associations to be created automatically on diagrams using drag and drop (Swimlanes), ensure that you set the option to Allow Automatic Creation

To make associations between user-defined Object Types and other objects, you first have to create a user-defined Association Type.

Creating an Association Type is complex and should only be attempted infrequently by users of Model Explorer's Design view.
